Flute length is 0

I have a part that I am generating the CAM for and everything is fine except I keep getting a warning that my flute length is 0 for a .9mm wide groove tool. It generates a path that looks correct but the constant warning is a bit annoying. I have deleted the tool and created a new new tool a few times after reading other similar threads but I just can not figure out what is wrong with this tool that gives me the warning.

Thank you,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks for posting - I'm not sure offhand what could cause this but could you attach your file here so I can take a look at it?

Thanks!

Here is the file. It is the T4 Groove tool in the CAM.

Thank you,
Marc

@marc7X3XJ

It looks like you replied to the forum post by email. Unfortunately this doesn't allow for attached files to come through, so you'll have to visit the forum in your browser to attach the file manually.

I have had this same problem for a few days now.

It is only on my Lathe Threading and Grooving Tools

Hi Marc and @hmmiller - I'm not sure what's causing this but there is a quick and easy way to get rid of the warning if it bothers you. You can use the "Create Derived Operation" option and select the same operation you've used and that should get rid of the warning while getting the same result. I made a quick screen cast in case that isn't super clear. I'll log this with development so they can look into it more. Are you able to reproduce how the tool gets that warning?

I tried a couple of different ideas, here is what I found-

I closed Fusion 360, drew a new part (similar to my old one). When making a new tool I did not get the Flute Length error. Then I brought in the tool I used from the other program and I did not get the error.

Current Theory:

Flute Length is a Mill bit term. I drew the lathe project while I had a mill program open. There might be something connecting the two programs.

Thanks, I am 90% sure that this lathe was the only file that I had open at the time. It was the first time that I have heard the term flute used in relation to a turning tool so that is what was driving me crazy looking for a setting to change. As long as it generates a good tool path and I can just ignore the warning I can work with it but they should definitely figure out where it is coming from.

Thanks again,
Marc

I've been getting this same error occasionally after I change a tool. As you've pointed out flute length is a milling term so i'm confused why i would get this error in a lathe program.

I just finally got around to trying what you showed me and I am getting a different result. The new operation is forcing me to make the front containment selection again along with the inner diameter again. Then when I click OK if generates a tool path but it is ignoring the two chamfers along the single groove. Can you explain why this would be happening?

Thank you,
Marc

Hi Marc -

Make sure that after duplicating it, you drag the new operation ahead of the original operation or delete the original operation and regenerate the new one because rest machining is turned on in the path.

Thanks!

Glad that worked out for you!

I have a new Siemens 808d lathe.  My gcode kept posting with t3 d3 and t4 d4 instead of t3 d1 and t4 d1.  I changed the compensation offsets to "1" and now I'm getting this error even if I change it back.
