Fixture Attachment cannot be used

In order to switch from Inventor to Fusion, we need the "Fixture Attachment" to be working.  I need this for a few reason detailed in this post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-manufacture/need-to-create-coordinate-system-for-g10-outpu...

But I might have gone into too much details, and it is not getting answered, so I'll just go to the main goal of getting this working this time.  See picture below, is that something that would be doable?  The code needed to duplicate the way to pick the WCS exists already, it would "simply" need to be ported over to the fixture attachment...

I just feel it is strange that a function is there, and completely unusable, might be better to remove it if it cannot be made to work I guess...  but, since it is there, it means it can be made to work right! 🙂

I do know that you can place a Joint Origin point on your fixture and "Fixture Attachment" interacts with that. That may give you what you are looking for...

Amazing!!!  Thank you so much for finding this!  It works perfectly!!!!

Ok, I tried it for exporting to the simulator, and had to figure out which way the joint origin had to be, but that was easy, now I know how to orient it, and it places the job exactly where it should in the simulator.

I did not try yet for the G10 output, because our posts are currently set to calculate work offsets from the file's origin, so my post guru will change it to use the fixture attachment instead, but he is on holidays for a couple of weeks.  I don't see why it would not work though, since the post can obviously reference the fixture attachment for export, meaning the joint origin is a valid resource for the posts.  This is so great, thanks again!!!

 

Now, this problem is solved...  but it brought another problem, about exporting the stock to the simulator.  I will start another thread because it is more related to another preview feature in Fusion.

Ok, now that we can make use of a joint origin as a fixture attachment, would it be possible to make it so that when we create a joint origin in a template setup (an assembly file containing machine pallet, generic fixtures, etc), it gets passed on to the machining model?

For example, I have created the needed joint origin in the CAM template file.  So when I created a new CAM file, I bring in that template assembly file into a new blank file, and the joint origin is there, in design mode (good so far).  Then I switch to CAM, and create a manufacturing model, and it strips the joint origin (inside the manufacturing model).  That means it will force us to redo the joint origin in every CAM file we create, which is just a repetitive task that could be avoided, by adding the joint origins as something that gets included into the manufacturing model.  It would save time and repetitive task.

What verification software were you using when you got the fixture attachement to work? I am trying the joint origin method with Camplete but it is defaulting to my operation/setup WCS orientation, not the fixture attachment point. Do they have to have the same 3D orientation?

Hi, we are using NCSimul, and the fixture attachment is referred to within the interface that they have for Fusion/Inventor.  I don't know how it would work for Camplete sorry.
