Face Milling Roll in

I would like to be able to roll a face-mill into a cut using simultaneous X and Y movements along an arc to reduce forces on the cutting edge.

The face-milling tab has very few options for cutter position along the stock. For example, I would like to be able to control the position of the face-mill by more than the width of cut and the transition type. Is there a work around anyone has used that doesn't involve the creation of a model that would guide my face-mill with more control?

Is this something that can be added to a future update?

Use the 2D Adaptive toolpath and select the top face as your geometry, not the profile but the face itself, then stock contour to your stock/model size.

Or 3D Adaptive and get to select nothing! Smiley LOL

One can also use the Chip Thinning box on the Passes tab, but generally I agree that there need to be more facing options.

True! I always forget about how powerful 3D Adaptive is. Gotta love model aware toolpaths.

Agreed!

Also here are a few Ideas based on improving Facing. Everyone please vote for them!

Voted. I definitely don't spend enough time on the other forums either.

Update..

When using the face mill function the chip thinning option forces the cutter to roll into the part with a radial move equal to the radius of the cutter (which is the Sandvik preferred method), However, to control the path of the face mill I found that I had to create sketch geometry that reflects the path the cutter should take. It's still not perfect but it's much better.

Thanks everyone for your input.
