Directional arrows for inside or outside and conventional or climb milling

Is there a method to the madness of selecting profiles and forcing them to be Inside or Outside and Conventional or Climb. If I take a open ended U shaped profile and select the lines with the Alt key pressed, it will give me random arrow directions and random sides of the cut within the three selections of the U shape. There must be a way to force it one way or another. I also have closed profiles on a part 54 of them, and I have to inspect each one to make sure the cutter is climb and inside the profile. Sometimes the arrows are underneath the highlighted profile and I spend a lot of time zooming in and out to cross check the selection. Anyway to force it or do I need to make sure I select the geometry a particular way before it gets highlighted?

Personally, I find myself struggling the most in this area when I have Sketches turned on and I'm trying to select Model edges. So, first thing to do would be to turn those off. If they ARE off and you are still struggling, I'd like to see the file, if you could share it. To do so, right click on the file in the Data Panel and select the "Share Public Link" button. This will pop open a new dialog and then you select these:

You are probably right. I will go ahead and check. There were times were it worked fine but recently I have been becoming more and more frustrated with the random nature. I will go ahead and try it with sketches off. One followup question: Since I noticed that visible and non visible can be applied different for Design and Manufacture does this apply to sketches as well. Do I need to go into Manufacture and turn off the sketches or can I simply turn them off in Design and that will carry into Manufacture as being off?

It will depend on your Setup in the Manufacture workspace. If you select a "Root" component level, everything in there will be likely turned on when moving back and forth. However, if you leave a sketch on in Design and move over to Manufacture, it's also likely that the sketch will remain turned on. It's just something to be aware for and develop muscle memory accordingly.

Okay, will try. The only reason I asked is right now I am building templates for the seven machines which have machine components with all the workholding under Component Fixture, Stock Components with Parameters under Stock, and Part component which I drag in my Part. That keeps me on my toes as I am making both mods to the template for the future and the part for the here and now.
