Custom Speeds and Feeds_Not possible to select anymore

Hello!

I got used to set custom feeds and speeds in the tool library for each tool and operation so that I can call it back easy when I have to run a job.

Now the tool library got updated to the new one, which I do not like it btw(I can not organize the tool base on diameter, number ecc,). Since then if I select one of the custom feeds and speeds I get the error message "failed to select tool" (picture below). Do I need to activate something else to be able to use it again. I have over 50 tools, it's a mess if I have to remember all the speeds and feeds for each operation.

Hello,

Sorry to hear your having issues. You can disable the new tool library by turning off the featureflag. To do that, follow the steps below:

- Enable text commands

- Set to TXT and type 'cam.f'

- Uncheck tool library V4

Thank you for the reply. I know about the cam.f command. That how I activate the new library. My problem is not the new library, I still prefer the old one, but I will use whatever gives me the custom feeds and speeds profile. Before I could activate between the cam.f the option "custom feed and speeds" or something similar and in the old library I could save custom profile for each tool. Really fantastic option. Now that option disappeared and the only way I can save custom profile is by activating the new library but then as I reported it doesn't allow me to use the custom profile created. 

Do you know if there is a way to simple activate the custom profile in the old library or at least make them work in the new library?

I mean that I could create different defaults settings for feed and speed in each tool and call them back base on the operation. Picture below. Now I am using the new library style because I can not get the same option in the old library which for me was the best. This one is better looking but less efficient.

Thanks for your post, it's good to hear you like using multiple feeds & speeds. Unfortunately, we have removed the option to use multiple feeds and speeds with the old tool library from Fusion in favour of the new tool library, so there is no way to access this functionality in the old tool library anymore. We are working on improvements to the new tool library at the moment, including sorting tools based on parameters like diameter and tool number, as well as extra filters so that you can find tools quickly. 

So I can help with the problem you are having with selecting a tool for an operation failing, please could you send me the tool library with the tool that you can't select in it? You can get the tool library by following these steps:

1. Open the tool library in Fusion
2. Select the library containing the tool you are trying to use in the tree on the left-hand side
3. Right-click and select 'export library'
4. Choose a location to export to, and select to save as type 'Fusion 360 Tool Library (*.json)' from the dropdown under the file name
5. Click 'Save'

Hi Alessio, 

Having spoken to my team about this, I've been made aware of a bug we are already looking into fixing in this area. Please, could you confirm whether the tool you are trying to select has already been used in an operation and has had a new feed & speed preset added to it? If so, we are aware of this issue and working to fix it! 

A temporary workaround for the problem would be to copy & paste the tool from your local library into the document library and then select the tool from there.

Thank you very much! the trick works. If I select the tool form my cloud library, and it is not present a copy in the document library, then it works with custom feed and speed. Amazing! 

Yes I am a big fan of the custom speeds and feeds feature. I think it is brilliant. Only bugs I found, in case you are not aware of it, is that after selecting a custom feed and speed profile for a tool used in a operation, the stepover (so WOC) and DOC are applied to the toolpath. Until here it's corrected. The probelm is that if I change the WOC or DOC in the operation later on (not in the custom feed nad speed profile), let's say 2D adaptive, then once I save and close the operation and reopen it, the stepover and DOC I manually applied change back to the ones in the custom feed and speed profile I selected. Would be nice if the software can keep the manual changes and overdrive the settings for that operation only. Otherwise if you do not check the toolpath will change it without you notice it.

In case you already fixed that problem, thank you very much in advce.

I love Fusion 360 CAD/CAM. I only wish a bit more power on the 4th axis in terms of gear machining but I guess you will get there as well in future 🙂

I think the bug you are referring to with WOC and DOC should be fixed now in the version of Fusion you are using. Please feel free to try it again and let me know if it is still causing problems so we can look into it further for you!

Thank you very much. I am fighting with friends that are stocked with Siemen NX. Crazy expensive. not user friendly CAD/CAM software 🙂 I am trying to let them test Fusion360 but they mainly make helical and herringbone geras and for that fusion360 is far from NX. 

I also tried and below you can see my last attempt (I used POM). It works with the new rotary toolpath but it's not efficient at all. Better toolpath should be used. You can direct the message, in case you know how is taking care of the 4th axis CAM 🙂 Simpler softerware like GearMotic can make it so I am sure Fusion360 would be able to supported as well.

Unfortunately, you can't reorder tools in the new tool library at the moment. We are working on adding the ability to order by any parameter at the moment though (e.g. order by diameter, tool length, etc.), as well as adding some extra filters for tools. Thanks for the feedback on the rotary toolpath, it's always good to see parts that have been made using it!

We are actively working on adding and improving toolpath strategies (including the 4x rotary toolpath you mentioned). In this case, like you said, the rotary toolpath probably isn't the most efficient, but would allow you to machine the part (which wasn't possible before the new rotary option).

I'd be interested in taking a look at the part and seeing what toolpaths we have that might produce a nice, efficient result. Would you mind sharing it with me? If so, you can send it on an email: [email protected]
