I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. What do I need to do to make this tool shaft round?

In Fusion 360, I knew you couldn’t create fully custom tools, but I honestly didn’t expect it to be this limited. I can’t understand why it’s not even possible to define a round-shank tool properly.

the program itself will work, albeit with some red collisions. Its bad when doing face grooves since the tool has no radius and is displayed as full thickness.

Cant explain it, but in a week someone will come by to ask you:

"I wanted to check in and see if you still needed assistance, or if you found a solution to your question already? Let us know if you need further assistance by providing an update or if you have found a solution, please share it with the community so other members who may have the same question could learn from your experience.

Ok, that's worthy of a chuckle 😀

As to the OP question; in the tool library it's displayed as square and changing that is actually a lot of work. However, once you see the tool in the canvas (where your toolpaths are displayed) you'll notice that we convert it into round there.

That said....

3D tool import of turning tools is very much on our roadmap and we have some excellent prototypes functioning well, for the most part. I can't give a timeline on when this will be seen by the general public, but if you want early access to it, I invite you to join the Insider Program to access this feature when it becomes available at the earliest stage of access. Membership is free, but it does involve an application process. You can apply here: https://feedback.autodesk.com/key/Fusion360Insider

No, it's going to be a lot closer than that 😉

(I do wish we had a "thumbs down" option)

The checking in thing is so annoying! It makes me think there's been progress on the topic, but in reality its just a bot (or someone copy/pasting) the same message trying to get "solutions".

It's like autodesk doesn't know how web forums work... It's gotten to the point where I'm going back to the practical machinist because these forums have deteriorated so much over the past year. Updates for the sake of updating, no real improvements from a user standpoint.

I already told them that and they say therye just following orders from above......Hmmmm

Im sure theyve gotten a 3% increase this fiscal year in closed topics though so everyone is happy.

If they listened to me, they'd simply DM the OP if it was closed or widen the time to 2-4 weeks instead of 1.
