Combine generative design with existing tooling

Is it possible when creating a generative design that one of the constraint is that the design/product or part has to be created with the existing tooling (say turn machines, CNC machines) and NOT with the 3D printer?

While turning isn't current supported, most milling strategies are. As far as manufacturing constraints go there are 2, 2.5, 3, and 5 axis machining available. You also get to specify the minimum tool diameter, shoulder length, and head/collet diameter.

I honestly couldn't tell you. The primary concern has been traditional 2.5 and 3 axis machining as the go-to methods. I would say that you can probably get creative with the 2-axis solutions for turned parts and come out close-ish.

 

The other thing would be to divide up your cylindrical spaceclaim into X number of wedges and then use the frictionless constraint types to approximate symmetry lines. From there you can kind of get a profile that could be revolved.
