CNC gcode from stl file

Not sure if I do it right. I create a fusion 360. create sketch and add a rectangle 250x118 and then I import the .STL file and place it nice and it looks ok. Then I go to manufacture and add a setup but when I trying to add tools then I get problem. I can't select the stl I have import it. I can't select the toolpath so something wrong I have done but not sure what.

You cant add tools (to your tool library) or you cant add operations? does Fusion crash, what do you mean by "can't"?

 Can you post the model To attach a file Go to File -> Export and save as a .F3D Archive File and attach it to your next post, if you can not post the file you can PM it to me or say in your next post you can not post the file and one of the Guys that do NDA work will help.

I mean I can add tools but when is time to select the toolpath it did not do anything.

You can`t directly edit or toolpath a MESH STL format file in Fusion 360, you will need to convert it to a CAD format file for example to a .STEP or .IGES format file.

If you are going to machine the shape on a Router or Mill you will need to do this, if you are using a 3D Printer then you just need to import the .STL file into the Printer software.

Hmm yes I did guess that but did not hope I did not have to do that 🙂

I successfully converted some stl files into step format by following link below  and produced very elaborate 3D tool paths.

I had FreeCAD on my computer before Fusion so I experimented  with solids but then quickly transitioned to Fusion and got hooked on it.

You can machine directly from STL files. The caveat is that you have to use 3D operations.

Ahh ok nice link and I do like that guy, he have help me alot Lars.

I trying now with a STL file I find on Thingiverse, my STL file did not look nice and I just want to try a little now.

But when I do use a Mesh body I can't find where to say how deep the Z have to go on each step.

When I run the simulator it does look like it go all the way down. I can't find anything like "Multiple Depths" when I have a Meshbody?

I did use 3D Parallel and the result was ok, not great, the ring gave me jagged but it was ok. maybe something with the STL file.

What did you have as the stepover for the parallel toolpath?
