Chamfers on flat end mills

Hi All,

Increasingly I'm seeing my tooling suppliers recommend ends mills with a small chamfer on the corners to improve tool life.  I have an application where I am needing to put a chamfer on a part with one of these end mills.  Unfortunately due to clearance issues it's not going to work with a typical chamfer mill so I am using a 10mm end mill with a .5 mm 45 degree chamfer on the corner however fusion won't allow me to add this feature to a regular flat mill.  Now I can change the tool type to a chamfer mill however that tool isn't supported for all of the operations so it's not a viable solution.

Would it be possible to add an option for corner chamfer when creating a flat end mill?

This is something that's been requested more than a few times over the years. Looking in our ticket system, I do find a recent ticket that's been opened (CAM-48372), so I've added this thread to the request.

That's actually not a bad idea. I thought there was a time when Form Mill tools weren't valid selections for Adaptive and Pocket toolpaths, but it appears that it just generates a warning about "invalid tool", but will generate a toolpath:

Interesting, was just an idea, thanks for running with and proving it out.

It's worth noting a couple things;

1) Assuming my memory hasn't taken a turn for the worse, selecting a Form Mill is a relatively recent change. I cannot say for certain (at this point) whether it's intentional or not. It may or may not remain in the software

2) Fusion is only calculating as a straight endmill. It does not compute for any chamfer size; it will be leaving excess material in fillets.
