CAM a STL object

A customer wants to mill these letters into a prepared block of wood. The model itself is imported as a net (STL). The CAM part works pretty well, but not the chamfer. Is there an easy solution for milling it without converting the net to a solid body? The chamfer is not modeled in the STL. Thanks you your advice. 🙂

I don't know of a way outside of creating a sketch to drive a 2D chamfer

 

Otherwise if it was modeled within the STL you could use a model aware 3D toolpath to drive it, but alas

Thank you for your comment and sorry for my late reply.

To be more precise: The customer uses the milled wooden plate as a die for dough. To get the dough easier out of the die, the cutout has to be tapered. So the customer mills first the cutout with a flat bit. Then uses an engraving bit (eg. shaft dia 3.175mm, tip 0.2mm, angle 20°) and follows the previous cutted contour to get the "walls" tapered. If he adjusts the z-axis, he can control the depth of the tapered part.

You can save yourself some time by milling everything with one tool and get the tapers by using a tapered end mill, McMaster has quite a few to choose from end mills | McMaster-Carr and also Harvey Tools for a more extensive selection, Miniature End Mills-Tapered-Square (harveytool.com) .
