BUG?? Just had a gouge

Hi  - I just had a gouge in my part and messed up the job.

I'm running a parallel tool path along the top of my part pass direction was ZERO degrees, I finished the part and went to make another however i changed the pass direction of the parallel ball to 90 degree to give my customer the option of another finish.

On making the cut pass to 90 degree the tool violated the solid model and gouged the part in one area, the rest of the part was ok.

To make this a bit more odd i played around with the direction and when putting 89.9 pass direction or anything lower than 90 the gouging goes way and machines normally.

Pic 1 the solid get violated

89.9 deg.jpg

Pic 2 change pass direction to 89.9 or below 90 and all is fine

Any idea- i'll have to check to see if i can share the model.

Cheers guys

If you can even just share the file privately, that would be VERY helpful

Email it to me at libertymachineshop at gee male dot com

Or, PM me the A360 link

I think you may be suffering from the dreaded dog leg syndrome. Fusion expects G0 to behave reliably like G1 but my machine and others will pick a 45 degree path and go there while under G0 motion.

Move over to Linking and always use High Feed Rate mode to Always use high feed and set it to something faster. I have not found a way to make high feed rate the default. I had it working once as a default and Fusion did a covert upgrade and dropped my default. I now have had a history of three gouges. The first, I did not know what was happening. The second, I forgot to change to rapid feed.  The third, the default appeared to change. Now I make it a habit to always check the High Feed Rate mode before I post G-code. That third one cost me $4K on a blank. Hope this helps.

@ian1196 I probably should have circled back and posted in this thread. @Anonymous and I have been discussing this thread via email. It's a bug in the software with how it calculates it's transition moves:

It's very similar in behavior to another bug I've submitted recently. In this case, opening up the tolerance to .05mm makes the issue go away. A bit loose for my tastes....

I have seen that a few times sometimes setting the stock boundary works, ever with the toolpath or stock contours.

Hi All

This is most likely the issue we have with 'smoothing' going wrong. Just to confirm this I would like to ask the first poster @Anonymous  to disable smoothing in the gouging toolpath and see if that fixes it

We have a better fix in the pipeline, going out very soon. Please let us know if disabling the smoothing fixes the issue.

Kind Regards

Martin

Yes turning off smoothing fixes the issue, also in this instance keeping smoothing turned on and chainng the pass direction to 89.9 deg from 90 deg also fixes the issue.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for confirming. We're aware and have a fix for the issue, it'll go out with the next update. That is works with a slightly different angle is just a coincidence, the problem is in the smoothing.

Thanks again for your help and patience.

Regards
