Adjusting or Adding Tool Information (for a Radius Mill)

I have a project that requires two different radius/roundover mills, 1/8" and 1/4". The bits I have are an Amana 56125 for the 1/8" (https://www.amanatool.com/56125-solid-carbide-point-cutting-roundover-1-8-radius-x-1-4-dia-x-5-16-x-...) and a Whiteside 1572 for the 1/4" (https://www.whitesiderouterbits.com/products/1572). 

 

Within Fusion, the Amana tool library has their 1/8" bit set as a radius mill, which ends up properly rounding over the 1/8" fillet of the design. However, the Whiteside tool library has their 1/4" bit set as a form mill and the toolpath is too far from the actual edge/fillet of the design that it doesn't end up cutting or rounding over anything during the actual machining process. 

 

How can I properly adjust, or manually add/enter, the Whiteside bit information to run as a radius mill to properly cut and roundover my 1/4" fillets? Thanks in advance!

I believe someone already showed you in the original post. You can also modify the form tool drawing and change the compensation point to actual centerline. Whiteside literally gives you the DXF to make your own form so just create it "properly" (or Inspect it for measurements to make your own Rad tool in fusion. 

For this, just use a negative radial offset equal to the radius. 


In your Form Tool, change the Diameter to .001 instead of 0.5 and the tip will be in a more correct place. I'd measure your actual tool!

Someone did mention adjusting compensation, but another person then replied they wouldn't prefer doing that and would rather enter/define the tool manually. I followed up and asked them why the compensation wasn't preferred, but haven't gotten any response. That was a couple days ago, so I figured I'd see if anyone else had some insight. 

 

I am new to Fusion/CNC, so I apologize for these questions. I haven't been able to figure out how to properly enter/define the Whiteside 1572 tool in Fusion. Amana's tool description has extra information that Whiteside's tool description lacks (B1, D1, etc.), so I wasn't sure how someone more experienced would enter or define the Whiteside bit. 

 

Lastly, what is a DXF?

Yeah, thats normal. Frankly you dont need to start a new thread for the same issue. 

It may not be preferred, but the end toolpath is the same. Just ensure the simulation is correct! You can still fix your form tool in the meantime though! 

 

In your Form Tool, change the Diameter to .001 instead of 0.5 and the tip will be in a more correct place. I'd measure your actual tool but the site AND dxf say it comes to a perfectly sharp point. 


DXF is a computer line drawing. In this scenario, it gives you the shape of the tool. You can Inspect the radius, tip diameter, cut length and width, etc to fill in all the fields needed to make your own Tool in the library.
