I do a fair bit of 3D printing using Fusion 360 as my primary design tool and slicer. In may respects, I love what it does, and it produces very good results for me right now. But there's one spot that's been an issue for me: FFF supports.
The supports get created anywhere there are overhangs. Right now, if I don't want that to happen, I need to create my own custom supports and just print them like any other model. Therefore, they use up more filament, which is unnecessary. I do this primarily when I want supports underneath the part, but not underneath overhangs elsewhere on the model.
I've discovered that area and volume supports for specific locations is a feature for SLA/SLS printers in the Manufacturing Extension. But this is something many FFF printers could also utilize. I'd love to see the ability to either customize locations of supports or just check a box to support from the build plate only. I would imagine built plate only supports wouldn't be terribly complex to add as a feature. And it would help a ton of folks using Fusion 360 for their slicing needs.
