Adaptive clearing

I am trying to do an adaptive clearing of a Y type slot. I select the bottom of the slot but no tool paths are generated. I also tried to select all the edges of the Y but the tool path cuts through the entire part.  I am stumped. I have attached model. I use a 1/8 end mill

 

UPDATE

I designed in Solidworks. I removed the fillets on all the corners and got a good tool path so the problem is with the fillets. Any thoughts ?

If you attach the model with the fillets and failed toolpath I can create a screencast for you, this is certainly doable and probably comes down to a geometry selection process.

I made a quick screencast with your part from Setup through an incorrect toolpath, to how to do it correctly. Hopefully this answers your question, I can attach the .F3D file later if need be.

I am still having issues. I did another part and had the same issue with the fillets. If I add the fillets in fusion the tooling works fine. I have attached new part if you want to take a look

Thank you for the video but it was to difficult to follow. Its real was low quality on my side and could not follow.

I will do a short demo made of screenshots with your current part, although it'd be handier if you could attach the .F3D with the problem. I have to get some sidewalk shoveling done first though so it might be a little while.

Here is the new file with fillets and the tool path on setup 1 adaptive will not cut. Any ideas ?

Alright, the way to think about using 2D Adaptive for open geometry is to actually imagine you want to select what you don't want to cut, and ensure that the arrows are on the correct side of the profile you select:

Since you have already machined the outside profile of the part, you need to specify the stock removal area as 2D toolpaths do not take remaining stock into account (known as rest machining) in a parametric sense (2D Contour has the option, but it really only for corner clearing areas that would have been missed by a larger tool). Also make sure to set your height from a selection as in this case setting it from the contour would have it machine at Z0.

Hopefully this aids in the understanding of how 2D Adaptive works. It seems counter-intuitive at first to have to make all these selections (which is why 3D Adaptive can be much faster) but it can also be very handy in avoiding areas or making fixturing like softjaws without having to ever model them.

I was able to get the correct tool path but Its at Z0, I dont understand how you select bottom of groove ? I did use Stock Contours and selected as you pictured.

Accepted solution

On the Heights tab you need to change Bottom to From Selection, and then choose your bottom reference geometry. You can use a positive or negative offset as well.

I had Selected Contours () not selection.   That worked it give the tool path I was looking to generate.  Your are right its confusing.
