5 Axis Simultaneous Help

I am fairly new to the 5 axis simultaneous stuff. I typically only use it when I can't get away with positional work. I've used the swarf tool to produce some chamfers where I otherwise would not have been able to. I am presented with a similar problem here. In the circled portions of the picture below you will see a 1/16" radius up against a vertical wall. I am not able to reach down and machine that from the top so I need to run a simultaneous path.  I've been trying quite a few different things with the multi axis contour but it has so far yielded no results. I've tried various tool orientations (and no orientation). I can't seem to get it to produce anything. Any suggestions?

Assuming you're coming in from the Z as shown in the picture, using a ballnose endmill and either the scallop or parallel toolpath will get you what you need without 5 axis simultaneous.

Unfortunately no (well, not with tooling on hand). It's a 1/16" ball. To do as suggested would require a bit over 1/2" flute length.

You could try selecting your tool orientation to get into it at an angle. Lock it in a 3+2 orientation and give yourself clearance from the walls to use a stubbed up ballnose in a long holder. The same configuration you would have to use for 5 axis.

 

For an actual 5 axis toolpath, you could try Flow as that does a good job keeping the tool normal to the surface and gives you the ability to constrain it. It's a powerful toolpath but it takes quite a bit of tweaking to get it to produce the results you want; it's not a simple point-and-click solution.
