5-axis machining of turbine blade on Haas with TR310 trunion

I have a customer looking at Fusion Ultimate for the possible 5-axis machining of a turbine blade.

Is this possible?

If so, can someone from the Fusion team contact me for the model.

I can send it over & we can see if it is possible to machine it.

Just to add a slight complexity, they may wish to machine using a ball-nose cutter with a constant lead on the cutter.

Fusion has its pros and cons, but a big con is the severe limitations of multi-axis machining. I currently run a Haas UMC-750 with Fusion Ultimate. Indexing is all well and good, but even attempting to get a correct toolpath on the two that are available (swarf and mult-axis contour), you will find they can be rather stubborn and difficult to deal with.

 

If you want true multi-axis machining on a turbine blade, Fusion is not the answer. Sorry to any employees that read this, but that's the truth. I would perhaps suggest Powermill.

Thanks for sending the file my way. @Anonymous definitely isn't wrong in saying that Fusion 360 isn't at a place where turbines and impellers are easy to accomplish, even in Beta mode. This file would be able to be toolpathed fairly simply in Fusion 360 if a true swarf would be appropriate on these surfaces but looking at the geometry, the blades seem to dip and bow in the center. If these parts are occasional or the cuts don't get much more complex than the part that you sent me however, Inventor HSM and HSMWorks can handle them pretty easily. Because I'm not sure if you'd like the public to see the part you sent me - I'm going to DM you a video showing some toolpaths drawn with 5 axis flow in Inventor HSM. If your customer is looking to do these types of parts day in and day out, PowerMill would be a good option.

Hopefully that helps you out - I wanted to give you a thorough answer. Let me know if you need any more information.

 

Edit - @griffew is right - looks like my Fusion 360 update was a little behind and Flow is now an option. Very exciting - I went ahead and verified that this part is now just as easily programmed in Fusion 360 as Autodesk HSM.

hello, is it possible to use flow strategy with 3+1 axis? just want displace zero point of a ballmill when finishing

Yes you should be able to use Tool Orientation to set an angle for any operation, and wouldn't require any multiaxis use either.

hello, thank you/ but how? what should i do to use it? a PP give a code for 5 axis, but not for 3+1

i can use wraped 2d strategies and 3d with different Z directions, but not flow

 

or i better should start new topic?
