3D pocket will not plunge outside of stock

I have a process that insists on ramping in. There is plenty of room outside of my stock setup to let it plunge down. Am I missing something, or is it just a bug.

 

Here is the project. The cam cycle is the CHECK THIS TOOLPATH cycle.

Hello,

 

Thanks for posting! I can't see your model attached. Do you have a boundary selected inside of the geometry tab? I assume it is being contained within the stock

Yea i have drawn a boundary and told it to stay inside of it, but the boundary is very large.

Hello,

 

Thanks for the reply! Without the model it's hard to determine exactly what this could be.

 

I do see you have rest machining 'from bodies' enabled, it would be useful to see what bodies these are, perhaps they are causing an issue.

 

With the boundaries, i always make them extend a large amount past the stock to be absolutely sure the tool can plunge outside of the stock

 

If you're able to share the file, I can find out exactly what is wrong with the toolpath

I've got a couple questions:

 

1) Is the stock called "Rest Machining" actually what you are working with?

 

2) Is there a reason that you have your "Top Height" set to 1.6" below the top of the part?

Rest machining is what im working with. That height is because we only have one shift and they turn off the air so i needed to start there today. You can make that at the top and it still does the ramping down. Honestly i dont need the rest machining option enabled, that was for the other side when i did it a different way, but it still ramps and does not plunge when i do that.

In "Ramp Method" you have it set to Zig-Zag. Set it to Plunge.

For selections, you have it set to "Inside Boundary". Set it to Center.

For the rest of your selections, you've got too many going on. Set it to this:

Plunge outside of stock still does not work even with those options. Plunge literally plunges into my part according to the simulation. I cant have that.

Looks like you just need to make the boundary bigger, see attached file. Also can you download and attach your file next time instead of using the download link.

I cannot move the boundary that way. The limit of my machine is about .022 inside of the part. I can only go bigger around the outside and it is still not doing what it should be doing. I'm going to have to conclude that it is indeed a toolpath bug. I dont know what else to try. 

It also wouldnt be a big deal if the ramping worked like the 2D pocketing where it ramps from the last machined portion. This always raises above the machined section and starts the ramp down and it take around 15-30 seconds to get back to machining the part.

The problem is you need room for the lead rads as well as at least the diameter of the cutter. The stay down cuts are creating some big lead in rads, disabling stay down might help.

@Anonymous Have you tried an Adaptive op? See attached file, it stays a lot closer to the edge of the stock. The machining time's a bit longer but you might get that down by increasing the stepover.

 

Toolpath calculation times are quite long so I turned off smoothing, you might want to enable and recalculate.

Hello folks, hope you all don`t mind me joining in, I am new to Fusion as well so I am trying to learn from other peoples issues Smiley Happy

Anyway, I did change the lead in from Zig Zag to plunge as one poster suggested and found the same, I ended up creating an "entry point" and that seems to have it working now, it plunges off the stock and I also changed it to do both directions instead of just climb milling and it looks reasonable on the simulation Smiley HappySmiley Happy

Here is the file I have created, give it a try please and let us know if it has helped, might be totally wrong but I am learning it as well Smiley HappySmiley Happy

That starts out awesome. but sadly the regular plunging problem still comes up when it moves to a different location, as seen in the picture. I even tried selecting a bunch of different entry point and it still will plunge when it goes to a different pocket.plunge in sad face.JPG

I have the lead in and outs as super tiny, and there is no stay down option. This tool path just seems very crippled. I cant even tell it to use entry locations and have it go to the place i chose.
