3D Contour Tangential Extensions Not Working

Hi

Trying to do what I thought would be a relatively simple operation but having issues. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The .25in endmill wants to plunge down into the edge of the stock, instead of entering from the side. So, i try to add a tangential extension.

3D Contour, selected an open chain, put in for .25in extension on start and finish, hit OK.

Not only does the extension not compute, but it enters at the closed side of the open chain. What am i doing wrong?

I know i can give it giant lead-in radius and specify the starting point but you cannot specify the extension. The crazy part is that I've made this part before with a tangential extension and now cant figure out how.

If there is a better toolpath for this please let me know! Ive tried with Flow and Blend but cant get either of them to extend. Morph seems like it really should be the ideal toolpath but it always comes up as "Empty Toolpath"  So frustrating!

Thanks

Billy

You can simply create a production model and then create an offset surface of your groove in it. Make this surface a little longer and add this surface as a model to your operation.
That's what the production model is for!

Or you use the Morph Operation with extendet option

Hi

Your not doing anything wrong as such, its just that extensions of chains do not work with 3D toolpaths like they to with 2d toolpaths.

3D toolpaths only machine Model geometry so extending the boundary does nothing.

You can create an extended surface in the Design>Surface workspace

Hi

What geometry did you select for Morph? I cannot get it to output any decent toolpath and there is no option for tangential fragment?

Thanks

OK it seems like your morph is the same as my Flow. My Morph is something different. Is it just because its in a different language?
