Hi,

The 3D ramp and 3D contour program doesn't go all the way to the bottom. This issue existed in Mastercam as well, but they fixed it with later updates. The same issue exists in Fusion. There should be an option similar to Mastercam. Users should be able to machine the base when doing ramp or contour operations without needing an additional base finish program. Is there such a feature in Fusion? I am sharing a sample part and a link explaining how Mastercam solved this issue.

I usually run the "flat" toolpath as a derived and tell it profile as the type. This will get the heights at all the flats.

I ran that on your file

 Yes, it works with a flat toolpath, but if you examine the part, you'll notice that in the contour program, the tool jumps when it reaches the flat bottom, leaving some material behind. However, since both the bottom and the wall are flat, the tool should go all the way down to the base of the wall. You can understand better what I mean by looking at the solution in Mastercam.

I have mastercam as well so I know exactly what you mean. Yes those paths in fusion need some work.

Hi Emre, i checked your file. I think that you're right. The tool needs to touch all the way to the bottom.  There should be no stock left at the bottom. I watched the solution in MasterCAM. This feature should also be available in Fusion. There shouldn't be a need to create an additional program for the bottom of the part since the bottom is flat.

I'm having a similar issue with a 3D adaptive. Plenty of clearance, specified a ramp, just won't go down to the depth I told it to. This rush job should have been done in 30 minutes instead I've spent 2 days working around 10 crashes per day and Fusion acting up

For the steps above the bottom face you can get a pass at the correct level if you enable Machine Shallow Areas and set a small minimum step.

This doesn't work for the bottom face for some reason but you can get it at this level if you set it as your bottom depth rather than the model bottom. One new problem with these settings is the pass ends up with a ramp rather than a helix.

Hi Mark,

I already know the solution method you sent me. The problem is something else. The height is 1.5 mm, when you give 0.7 mm chip amount, it normally needs to be finished in 3 times. In the file you sent me, these movements are more in the simulation. When I examine the Z movements, the tool does not go down by giving 0.7 mm chip. This problem is also valid in the ramp program. What do you think about the ramp? I made a ramp program on the data you sent me. Can you examine it? Also, did you examine the solution in Mastercam? Mastercam developed the command to solve this problem.

Hi Hughes,

I made the same program in Inventor Cam. Inventor Machine creates the tool path without enabling Shallow Areas and set a small minimum step option. Why does Fusion create an interesting tool path?
