Hi,

i would like to make a clearing of these zones before finish, and i don't succeed selecting these zones only in the geometry selection of pocket or adaptative clearing. How please is it possible?

Many thanks

Do you want to rough out with 3D Adaptive as in image below? If yes try attached file, make DOC/Feeds/Sppeds/Tool/Stepover/Stepdown etc as you require.

Hope this helps

Hey Engineguy, that's exactly what i need, thank you!

But... For the first one, i'm sure i had tried those 2 lines and it was making other tool path. Though I could redo it on my project. For the second, i'm unable to select only the little zone you have selected. What do you do that i've missed?

See image below, it is often best to try different point to select a Boundary. Your model I think needs some cleaning up in that area but this selection will do most of the toolpath for you 🙂

I  just can't select only the little zone as you made. I can select 2 lines like this, how do you do to remove the outer contour? That's my question actually...

Here is a Screencast for you, apologies I forgot to switch the sound on but you should get the idea if watched in full screen.

Great thanks EngineGuy! You saved my life! I don't say I have no more questions, but for now it's OK. My screen must be too small i guess...

Hey EngineGuy, how are you?

I've done the adaptative clearing of both zones for real, and the result is better than i thought.  What would you suggest to finish and get rid of this little steps? I've got a 6mm ball nose mill...

I'll post a picture... Thanks

If you have access to the "Blend" toolpath it is a very good finishing strategy and highly recommended 🙂 🙂

If not then either the "Parallel" or the "Scallop" toolpaths are next best IMHO 🙂

OK, thanks. With a 6mm ball nose, is a 1mm step over a good finish or have i to choose less?

The smaller the better, depends on how long you want to spend machining it and what level of finish you want 🙂

And about the speed... I saw videos on youtube where for parallel operations it was going very fast. I'm begining so i try different values, but if you take very little passes, you can go very fast, like 5000 mm/mn. Or the vid were just fast motion. I tried a parallel finish on the top face, at 1000 mm/mn, it took half an hour and the result was quite bad. Step over of 3 for a 6mm mill.

Don`t know the material or machine so not able to suggest spindle and feed speeds, a 3mm stepover is way too big, not surprised the finish was bad, if I wanted a really good finish I would be looking at a stepover of around 0.15 or 0.1mm and depending on the material ie Aluminium, Steel, Delrin, Wood etc, etc set spindle and feed speeds to suit.

Long time machining when doing 3D finishing, as you rightly surmise very small cuts required 🙂
