3D Adaptive Clearing gives silly toolpaths like diagonals through air in rectangular facing pattern

I am using Fusion 360 to make GRBL code for my Genmitsu 3018 CNC mill.  The GRBL output works on the mill, but the toolpaths are very inefficient.  You can see in this screenshot where the mill is clearing a rectangular area above the model, that it makes many non-cutting transits through the air and even some cutting diagonals which make no sense.  Am I doing something wrong?

Are you using the software under a Free Personal Use License? If so you do not have the ability to generate rapid traverse (G0) moves. The software will convert all of your linking moves into high feed rate moves instead. The gouge along the top of the material is most likely due to a clearance plane not being above the top of the stock.
