Video attached.  The simulation doesn't show anything left above the model top, but the center was not machined.

Without seeing the .f3d model, it's not going to be the easiest issue to diagnose. Would you be willing/able to share it? To share:

File > Export > Save to local folder. Return to thread and attach the .f3d in your next reply

It could be several things:

Tool size not as described in Fusion.

Machine accuracy (although I doubt that one)

Incorrect selection

Incorrect stock/model selection

And lastly, it could very well be a bug, but we won't know without seeing

Here's the model.  The toolbit is specified correctly.  The machined part is the correct size within .0005".

How wide is the left over material?

About .0625".  I stopped the video just before the end of the tool path.

Are you sure you gave in the correct diameter tool?

The bit is .125" diameter made by Kyocera, so I'm reasonably sure it is specified correctly.

Looks like deflection on the last pass. That's not exactly a 50-taper VMC.

@etfrench

So your initial message reveals where to look first. That is your simulation shows no rib left. Yet the cut part does.

So looking at the video I'm surprised you had partial success cutting that part with that light work holding. I would agree with @Steinwerks that it is deflection.

I would assert it is not the tool that is deflecting... it is the work-piece is moving.

Try to find a better way to secure your part. Is there a way to verify IF the part actually moved?

I didn't even notice it was being held by double-sided tape until @RandyKopf pointed out the workholding. Milling rigid materials requires clamping force.

If tape is all that's available, the stepover needs to be lessened drastically.

I will also add that the deflection in the cut can easily be seen in the floor finish of the part. This is a very small cutter in a very light machine and it's very visible.

It's the first time I've tried the technique of using normal masking tape with CA glue between the layers.  I don't see any signs of deflection in the circular pocket or the outside dimensions of the part.  Perhaps the adaptive clearing is putting more side force on the piece.

Hey,

Looks like you might be missing that last pass? Your adaptive settings are set to be .050" of engagement, so if the remaining material is .0625" ish, you might be missing this last portion somehow.
