it would be wicked cool if there was a Place to add notes anytime during the approval process. for example when you approve the a CO there is a spot to place comments, but once you save the step you cannot add anymore comments. we should be able to add comments anytime. even after we approve the CO.
Have you considered having a loopback transition for adding comments? Here's an example (I just have it in the one state, but you could add to other states as needed)
This allows for a transition back to the same state where folks can add comments.
I have thought of doing that but changing the Workflow would require a system Re-Validation and updating all of our internal Procedures. being an FDA / Medical manufacturer this is quite hard because we have several different locations that operate with this Global workflow. it just seems like it would already be built into each state of the Workflow to allow Comments at any time to be input.
Until we implement a Comment mechanism like you are proposing, tell me if this could work for you:
In Item Details, you can create a section that would not be controlled by Lock mechanism and add a paragraph field "comments". That field would be writable even if when locked.
This Could be one way around it, the only thing I don't like is that the Comments section will be on the CO info page (which could be fine) but the list of who made the comments would not be displayed next to the Comment- like the Work Flow Actions list. It would be harder to find since this list would be captured in the Change Log, on a separate TAB. in an FDA audit it would be so much nicer to have everything in one spot instead of having to work through multiple tabs to show them how you find the Owner of a simple comment. or if there were multiple comments from different people. Also by creating another field in the CO I would have to re-validate our system and add this section to all the Procedures, given this task of updating multiple sites for the re-validation I most likely will not create it. but I agree that this could get you a comments section.
