Total weight in BOM

Total weight in BOM

In the BOM tab, you can see all items. Revision, Lifcecycle, Quantity...  A lot of Information can be displayed.

However, one is missing. If you want to know, what ist the weight/mass of a Pos. a sub assembly or the total weight from all parts.

I tried to calculate it with the Quantity. It does not work. It would be great to have a functionality, to calculate a integer field with quantity.

In this case, it can not be mapped with Inventor/Vault, because the BOM are made without this tools

Hello Bruce, the default tenants contain the BOM view Technical Details which displays the item single unit Weight. In addition, the Total Weight column performs a BOM weight roll up:

You can configure such a BOM roll up also in your environment: Simply add a new field Total Weight in the BOM tab and set the Field Type to Roll Up.

After selecting the Roll Up Source (Weight) click Choose a function - you will see that this roll up offers various calculation methods: If a BOM parent has a weight defined already, this can override the roll up for example or this given weight can be added to the total weight of all sub components. The functions Minimum and Maximum can be used to identify the heaviest and lightest components in your BOMs. They do not fit your use case, but can be used for extra BOM columns.

Finally, add this new BOM field Total Weight to your BOM view(s).
