"Restrict "Relationship Tab" options to latest versions" suggestions

"Restrict "Relationship Tab" options to latest versions" suggestions

The "Restrict "Relationship Tab" options to latest versions" setting in Workspace Relationships does two things:

  1. Limit selection of revision-controlled items to Latest Version only, making the "All"/"Latest"/"Working" selection filter in the Add Relationships box redundant
  2. Controls relationships behaviour when revision-controlled items increment a revision

On 1, I have the following suggestion:

  • Grey out and disable the "All"/"Latest"/"Working" selection filter in the Add Relationships box, when "Restrict "Relationship Tab" options to latest versions" is ticked

On 2, I have the following suggestions:

  • Update the help documentation (link) to describe all scenarios, including:
    • Behaviour when a relationship is added to an Unreleased working revision
    • Behaviour when a relationship is added to a Production working revision
    • Behaviour when a relationship is added to a Production revision
    • Behaviour when a relationship is added to a superseded revision
    • Clarify the behaviour when the relationship is Uni-directional (e.g. is it uni-directional from the source item or the target item?)
    • Describe a corresponding linking pick list setup to match the above behaviour - we often use selections in linking picklists to revision-controlled workspaces to create relationships via scripting. It would be preferable for the revision in the picklist to synchronise with the revision with the bi-directional relationship without manual intervention.

I have had to spend hours trying to work this out and I'm still not sure of it...
