There should be a way to additionally sort the project management schedule. First the start date and then have the option to add another field like the Task Number.
This would greatly enhance the PM Tab Functionality.
You could do this using a item number field similar to the BOM tab, but preferably that field could be custom, to allow for sequencial as well as group sorting. I.E. Grouping like tasks together.
Our example of how the current format is challenging:
At one point in our workflow we create 140 new items (tasks) via scripting. When PLY creates these tasks via the script it does not do so in the order that the tasks are listed in the script. For instance task 001 might be given an ID number of 656 and task number 005 might be given an ID number of 002.
We have seen this same issue when importing data and creating a new item, they are not created in order. We have tried to figure out how PLY is choosing the order (alphabetically, etc) in order to work within the standard program but have been unsuccessful.
Once we have run through each task and assigned dates everything is fine. But, as you can imagine going through 144 tasks that first pass that are not in order gets old fast.
If anybody has thoughts on how we might assign a start milestone date for each task in the script we would be interested in hearing about it as we have been unsuccessful this far.
Why do the tasks move around anyway? Sometimes you want the tasks grouped logically, in the order you enter them. This is what MS Proejct does. However, PLM360 re-sorts them based on some logic I haven't quite figured out. I think it sorts by dates and % Completed.
Kudos to Dan for trying to use the PM tab with 140 tasks.
