For data integrity purposes, we use the 'Retains Last Saved Label' configuration in multiple of our Users All picklists. The reason being, if we inactivate a user, we don't want that record to be cleared. The same case with the Derived fields. There are PMs associated to certain Products and to ensure there are no confusions, we use derived fields to maintain that relationship and allow WF actions.
However, the current Precondition Scripts don't allow for either of these setups, and make it difficult to substitute condition scripts with precondition filters. It would be nice if these 2 setups were considered.
