Modern UI: Ability to Print or Download directly from Viewer

Modern UI: Ability to Print or Download directly from Viewer

The new viewer in Modern UI is a great improvement and it is a very valuable feature! In order to make it even more robust, it would be great if there was ability to print directly from the Viewer, rather than having to download the file.

Additionally, having the ability to Download directly from the viewer would be a time saver, rather than having to navigate back to the Attachments tab.

Thanks!

@Anonymous,

For the printing function, what do you expect? Print what you are seeing (e.g. keeping the zoom level, panning), or the document as if you had downloaded the document, and printed it from the native app?

I'm assuming the latter, but to be clear, the viewer doesn't render the document 1:1, that's why I'm asking. Also, in the case of a 3D file, it would definitely be what's being displayed on the browser.

Let me know. Thanks.

@giliar.defriesperez agreed. Would prefer to print the document as if you had downloaded it and printed from native app (e.g. PDF, Word, etc). When considering 3D, do you mean that there would be 2 different behaviours?

Note: I just checked BOX and see that there is no direct print in their online version. If we need to assess priorities on download vs print, I would vote for download as first priority.

@Anonymous,

Yeah, we won't be able to print "natively", so we will assess what it takes to use the viewer's embedded controls for printing what's being displayed in the screen. I'll get back to you on that (I already moved this idea to Under Review).

For 3D models, my question was... well, what are you expecting to be printed when you click the "print" button on a 3d file? What you are seeing on screen?

And yes, I'll be looking into doing this separately - one enhancement for the "download" button there in the viewer, and another functionality for printing.

@giliar.defriesperez got it! Yes, for 3D would be best to print what's on screen. However, if it is an all or nothing, then at a minimum what's on the file.
