Filter on a filter!

Filter on a filter!

We have two options for finding information in Fusion; Using the search option or creating filters. The search function works quite well but it's sometimes difficult to find specific items particularly if it's from a pool of tens of thousands of records.

What would be useful would be able to filter a filter. This could be something similar to the filter function in an Excel list where the user maybe has a filter with 500 records but they can then refine this list to find exactly what they need. For us this would be useful on our document register where combining a number of different filters to find the result would be a benefit.

Example as follows:

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the suggestion. We all use Excel, probably more than any other software, and column filters are very recognizable. That is why we actually added this feature to our Modern UI. The premise is that you can add a filter to any column in the Workspace View. Similar to Excel, filters across columns use the AND operator whereas multiple filters within a column can use either OR or AND.

At this point, any change to the filters is automatically saved to the View that you are currently on. This may or may not be the right behavior. Once we have more usage of our Modern UI we intend to monitor this and make determination on whether this is the correct behavior.

You can check out this feature as well as many other improvements to our Modern UI by signing up to our beta program at https://beta.autodesk.com

Thanks for that information. Yes, that looks perfect for our needs.

Incidentally, I signed up to the Beta program a long time ago but I don't recall getting access to the new UI. I can turn this on an off in our tenant but it's definitely not functional at present.

We try to 'protect the innocent' by hiding UI elements that are not fully baked yet from the Production environment and even in some cases from the Beta forum. This is why you will see some very limited functionality in these environments. We turn functionality ON incrementally, so please keep up with the beta program emails.

The Modern UI is available in ALL environments right now. I highly recommend not to turn it on in your production environment in order to avoid confusion and missing functionality, but the ability to turn it on is inherent to all tenants. There are two settings that you need to look at. The first setting is in the menu 'System Configuration' --> 'General Settings' --> 'General Display Settings' --> 'Interface Style'. Make sure to set this one to 'User may choose' in order to turn on the ability of individual users to select the Modern UI in their personal settings. Please don't select 'Modern' in your Production environment as this will automatically switch all users to the Modern UI.

Sincerely,

Hi,

We are using the modern interface but I am still been asked the original question. Users want to be able to click on the header and then select from a list of variables what they want to filter on. In the same way as excel works. It's essentially a more dynamic way of filtering.
