Classification Picklists Linked To Picklist Manager

Classification Picklists Linked To Picklist Manager

Hello,

I would like to relaunch this topic, as you can see this topic was originally proposed back in 2015, stating it was not the right time too investigate this, however 6 years have now passed and I am hoping this might be the best time?? (Please See Link Below)

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-manage-ideas/classification-manager-picklist-field-from-th...

The Classification Manager is currently decoupled from the other configuration processes in which you hold within the system, for example the Picklist Manager etc.

My proposal is such can we please get the classification manager updated so that we are able to utilise the Picklist Manager, this would allow us to define a picklist to use information based on a Workspace etc.

It would also be useful to understand what other users feel on this subject.

Regards,

Ashley

Redevelopment of classifications is long overdue.

@Anonymous_Lambert, is this on the Fusion Manage roadmap?

The Classification Manager is not used now. The idea and the usecase shows a great potential.

Many users ask for a Classification. I support it to update the Classification Manager.

not sure there is any point posting on this forum, I don't think anyone from Autodesk reads this stuff.

Sorry Ian if it feels like nobody is reading it. We absolutely are. This particular request did not get much attention because it had little community support while it is technically challenging. The intent behind the Classification Engine was to create a varying set of performance characteristics that are applicable to a given class. With that in mind, the Classification Engine was created as a standalone service that is used by Fusion 360 Manage to classify data. For that reason, having cross references from the classification engine back to Fusion 360 Manage creates a coupling that may be hard to maintain. That said, it is not impossible but there needs to be a strong use case that cannot be covered by existing capabilities. I hope this explains the lack of communication on this topic.

Hi @ashley.hooper

Thanks for putting this request on the idea board.

We will look into this request in context of the other features planned for Classification Manager like Search, UI Configuration and export.

Thanks

Amitabh

I honestly have never seen any

Thanks

@dvirh Thanks for the information.

You say this decision was based on performance characteristics, do you remember what these were?

The problem is that there are features which I agree should be standalone and ones that should not be, like for example your part viewer, this is a good example of something which should be standalone as this can be introduced into many products.

Then in my eyes there is Classification which is a basic functionality surrounding any major application holding data, the problem with the classification has already been discussed with @amitabh_verma in person in New Orleans, in which we went through this in detail, and I am aware this was going to be taken away and discussed and potentially redeveloping the classification but this was going to be discussed.

Ashley
