New Permissions feature - Viewer role

Update to the below: Review this document HERE to understand how the newest Member Roles and Permission levels work within an A360 Team, BIM 360 Team, or Fusion Team hub project.

________________________________________

Hello,

Today we released a product update today that introduces a new Viewer role in a project. Previously there were only two roles supported within a project

Editor - view, edit, download, delete, collaborate (comment & markup) on design files

Project Admin - Editor + Access Management (Approvals, Settings, Access levels)

Our customers have a need to invite people into a project without giving them the ability to modify, download or delete design files. With this release, we are introducing a new Viewer role that can only view and collaborate on designs but cannot download, modify or delete data within the project.

This is how access levels are defined for the three roles:

A Member can be assigned one of the following roles - Project Admin, Editor or Viewer

A Project Contributor can either be an Editor or Viewer.

Managing Roles for a Project

A Project Admin can assign a Viewer role to a project member via the Project - Members dialog as show below

Invite Process

There is now an option to specify a Role when a new user is invited into a project

Give us your feedback and suggestions on this feature. Thanks !

Hello.

Is role management available only to Fusion Team users? I don't have that option in my Fusion hub.

Hi Bojan,

If your Fusion Team hub is a Free Personal hub (starts with "myhub.autodesk360.com") then there are no permissions for those hubs.

They allow one Admin, which would be you, then all others would be added as Project Contributors.

If you convert your Free hub to a paid subscription , then yes those do have the different admin/editor/viewer role functions that are shown here in this post.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Great update, though members with "Viewer" role can't see projects using mobile app.

Hope it gets fixed in the next mobile app update.

Thanks Kelvin for the update. Can you share with us how you are using A360 with Mobile and how the viewer only role would come into play on the mobile device? We just want to better understand how you are using it.

Thanks in advance for sharing more details with us and have a great day.

Ok, I'll explain.

We design jewelry stuff for multiple clients.

We use Fusion Team to show our clients how it looks before starting its production, and all they need to do is comment what they want to change or just aprove the model. Most of them use the mobile app to do so.

Each client has a different account that's used by all their employees, and they shouldn't have permission to Rename, Delete, Move (and so on) 3D models, but they do, because if I give that accounts viewer role, they will not be able to see their folder using the mobile app. Only accounts with Editor or Admin role can see projects at mobile.

Hope it was clear enough!

Thanks Kelvin,

That is perfect and we have passed it on to the team. Note that mobile is a ways out at this point and the only option would be to make them a Project Contributor. That will keep them in the projects that they are invited to.

Also depending on the type of mobile device, they can try using the browser on that device to access your HUB and that should work with a viewer role.

Thanks again for sharing the workflow with us and again we have shared this with the team. Hopefully the suggested workarounds will work for you for now.

Have a great day.

Thanks for the suggestion Bud,

Unfortunately it did not work.

I made some tests, and even as a Project Contributor, seems like they are still able to rename, move and delete files using the website.

I thought it was going to work, but it's ok. It's not something extremely needed right now.

Thanks,

Hi Kelvin,

Thanks for the update. Can you tell me what mobile device you are using? For example iPAD Pro with all the latest updates?

I will try this out on my tablet as well to see why it's not working for you. When I use my iPAD Pro and access Team through Safari, it works like it does on the WEB Site.

Thanks for letting me know what mobile device this is and I'll let you know how it goes with safari on my iPAD.

I'm testing it on Android, and I'm using the lastest version of the A360 app. It's a Zenfone (Asus).

I understand it works with Safari, and it will work with all browsers, mobile or not.

Accessing Team Hub through browser is not as practical as using the mobile APP. I just want to remove Editor permissions without making the project disappear in the app.

Thanks,

Hi Kelvin,

Thanks for the update and yes I'm referring to using a browser as a work around until the app is updated.  You actually have more features using the browser then you do in the app, is there any specific reason you prefer the app?  For anyone else following this thread, this shows that a viewer role works fine in the browser on an iPAD Pro

Thanks again for all the details and hopefully this will work as a temporary work around for the viewer role on a tablet.

Hi Bud,

Oh, seems like using iPad or tablet it really works absolutely fine.

In a mobile device that has a small screen up to 5.5 inches (mine, for example), using the website is very hard. Buttons get out of place, and you can't actually do anything.

I mean, not everyone has a tablet or iPad (I don't), so I can't set the accounts as viewers only, because of those using a "smaller" mobile device and need the app to work.

Thanks for all the support Bud! I appreciate your help.
