Unable to import a step file to use as a component's package.

I am new to F360/Electronics, but getting along. However, I'm having a problem with 3D packages.

I have created a new library, containing one component, a connector, imported from a .lbr file. All well and good: it seems to work, but as imported, the 3D package is just an outline. Therefore, I wished to import a 3D package from the vendor. The tutorials say this:

"A 3D representation of a Package can be an assigned model in STEP file format. The 3D models are offered in our online repository or could be your own uploaded 3D model. All supplied libraries have assigned simple 3D boxes by default, which can be replaced by 3D STEP file models with a web-based editor."

That sounds like what I need. However, I can find no guidance on actually importing my .stp file into the blank package in my component. The create component works, but I've no intention of spending a couple of hours modelling a connector. I would just like to do the import of the .stp file.

I can import the file into F360, but I cannot find a way to import that model into the new library.

Help? Thanks.

Did you manage to import the footprint? I've had some success with the footprints exported as eagle scr from  UltraLibrarian. Download the zip file, and extract the scr.

Then type "script" into the Fusion 360 electronics command line. This opens a file dialog, in which you can select the scr file.

For me, the footprints were reliably created, but the symbols failed. Not ideal, but better this way than the other way round, creating footprints is more tedious than symbols.

Once you have the footprint, download the step file and upload it to fusion: click upload file in the data manager panel on the left.

Then select your footprint, and select "Create a new 3d Model". Right click on the uploaded step file in the data manager on the left, and click "insert into current design". This will plop the step file into the package.

The footprint ends up in a sketch in the 3d model, you can check if the step import makes sense.

Many thanks... that did it. My confusion was related to the upload function. I hail from Altrium, and designs were local on the version I was using. However, your directions put me in the right place, and I downloaded my component.

Thanks again.
