Schematic disappears on save

Worked on schematic and pcb all day yesterday. Saved on the design level. Opened this morning and the schematic is empty. Run ERC and all the components throw an error as missing. The footprints are visible, and the schematic is visible in the thumbnail and in the design document.

The thumbnail in the data panel also shows the schematic.

This is very discouraging, as I am an ECAD novice and while this project might seem simple it represents about 8 hours of work and research.

Did this happen because I hit save on only the PCB document?

Hi @ryantgolden ,

I am so sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

Looks like the issue might be caused by multiple Fusion instance was launched in Windows OS and closed one of it before the other Fusion save the changes.

Before this issue is fixed, please make sure there is only 1 Fusion instance opened when you are working. Please NOT open other more Fusion instance in the same machine.

As for the corrupt file, could you please go to your cache folder and send the corresponded fsch/fbrd file to us to have a look?
You could find them in below similar path:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\8538KHDRN9HN\W.login\F

So sorry for any inconvenience.

I will keep you be posted once we have a fix.

Regards,

Helen

Okay i figured it out. It is because best practice is to save the electronics design document, which versions both the schematic and pcb document. I had saved the documents in the wrong order several times.

Let it be known that now I am not so sure that this is the solution. This problem has repeated since then because I think I closed the schematic document accidently rather than the electronics design document. If you do that, its game over, no coming back. your work is gone forever.

So basically don't use Fusion Electronics if you want to do any real work for fear of losing hundreds of hours and going out of business.

Hi @ryantgolden ,

Hope all is well.

Thank you very much for all your continuous feedback.

We have addressed the issue you reported that can't open file, and if your Fusion 360 is up to date, then you should not able to see those error message any more, and saving documents will be successful. Please kindly let us know if you might meet this issue again in the future.

So sorry for any inconvenient.

Regards,

Helen

The described issue happened to me twice already. I was working on a complex design and I was saving regularly so to not loose any data. After reopening Fusion only thumbnails persisted and the schematic is gone. First time it has happened I thought it was some random bug or my mistake. Now I have lost days of work twice, now I have to remake it third time and I'm gonna hate every second of it. I've lost entire trust in the Electronics workspace. In multiple places I was informed by software that my design is safe and saved. I still can't believe that with all that cloud connectivity the data can be just erased without trace.
