Problem with shared 3D package

Hi,

I have this situation:

I've created 0603 footprint and package in _STANDARD lib. On version 7 that footprint with package is imported in Resistor lib(since it cannot be used if not imported).

After that import, footprint and 3D package in _STANDARD lib get update. Everything is fine, for now.

Now, since that same footprint in Resistor lib does not have any links with same footprint in _STANDARD lib, it has to be updated too. After footprint update, I cannot update 3D package since footprint in Resistor lib uses v7 version of 3D package and footprint in _STANDARD lib uses v8 version of 3D package.

What now?

Update:

I've tried to remove 3D package from Resistor lib(v7 version) and I cannot because the package is in use(in _STANDARD lib, v8).

I don't know why does not exist option to select which version of 3D package I want to use or option to remove link between footprint and 3D package. Mess!

Also, do I have to update 3D package if I move designator text(tNames layer), resize pad(s) or in general, move something in footprint?

Nice, standoff. Love it! ❤️

Hi @silvio3105 ,

So the first thing to clear up, is remember there is no link between the libs. So when you see the package is in use error it's not referring to _STANDARD lib v8. The package is in use by a device within resistor library. You are not allowed to delete the package because doing so would ruin the device. You first have to unlink that package from any devices that use it. You will then be allowed to delete the footprint.

Now if the 3D model has a new version, the Resistor lib should note that and allow you to update the 3D model in the Resistor library on it's own. 3D models are the only thing that maintain a link and have a different relationship with the library compared to the other library assets. I personally find this harder than it needs to be but that's how it is now. 3D models are special and behave differently then the other library assets.

In general the footprint and 3D model should be in lockstep.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I'm not sure how this helps.
3D package is shared between _STANDARD and Resistor libs. Both footprints use same 3D file for 3D package. Only one lib uses v7, other uses v8 version.
And I cannot find solution how to change file version which footprint will use.
When I open 3D package from footprint in Resistor lib(that's v7), it tells me that newer version exists(v8) and I can only save v7 as new version(v9 in this case).

Here's video about this problem.

I see now, some dialogs are missing.

Hi @silvio3105 ,

Couple of things to try. In the content manager go to the 3D model section. Do you see any arrows to download V8 into the current library? Click them to bring the latest version of the 3D model in.

Now I noticed that you tried clicking the triangle but that didn't work. Normally it would pop up a dialog allowing you to bring in the latest version. Maybe that dialog popped up on another screen?

I use laptop, there's no second screen. I used Windows Game Bar for recording and that's why pop up dialogs are not in the videos.

I don't see any download button

When I open 3D model, I get this warning
