Snap to click?

Hi,

how to disable "snap to click"?

As I saw, I don't have to click directly on the object to select it.

That's the problem since sometimes I want to select the pad but Fusion selects silkscreen line.

Hi, @silvio3105

What about leveraging the selection filter to make objection easier? You could select the specific types of objects that you want them able to be selected from this filter.

Thanks,

I don't see this as solution. Why?

- Bad UX cannot be solved by simply saying "use selection filter"
- It easier(less time consuming) to brute force click around object I want to select
- I reported this to encourage devs to do something about wierd UX when selecting, not to read about solution I even cannot close while working(I'm talking about selection dialog).
- Part with bad UX for dimension tool is completely ignored.

Part with bad dimension UX is my bad. Here's separate topic for that - https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-electronics/bad-ux-with-dimension-tool/td-p/11199923

Hi @silvio3105 ,

Are you aware of the cycle selection? If you have multiple items overlapping when you left-click on one of them you'll see that the cursor changes to a cursor that looks like move but filled in white. This lets you know you are in cycle-select mode, if you right-click you will cycle through all nearby items. Once you land on the object you want to actually select left-click to select it.

This is what I prefer to do and it minimizes my interactions with the selection filter since usually you only have a few objects overlapping. This should mitigate this concern until we can fully revisit selection.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Not sure, I'll test that and write post about it.
I prefer UX where I havw to click on object. Video shows that I can click in void(but near object) and Fusion 360 will select that object.

You could also try to adjust below two parameters in the Fusion preferences dialog

Capture.PNG

Catch factor: Within this radius a mouse click can reach objects. Set the value to 0 in order to switch this limitation off. So you can reach even objects that are placed far beyond the area of the currently displayed window. Default: 5% of the height of the current display window.

Select factor: Within this radius (given in % of the height of the current drawing window) EAGLE offers objects for selection. Default: 2%.

Can you better explain Catch factor and diff between catch and select?

Hi @silvio3105 ,

Thanks for bringing this up. This is a little known carry over from EAGLE, in the current implementation of Fusion 360 those parameters don't do anything. I'll make a ticket for this because they should be removed if they don't do anything. @yiqiu.han The documentation doesn't currently reflect this reality so I understand why you posted it and I applaud you in helping @silvio3105 . I'll make sure this gets to our documentation team.

@silvio3105 I would like to see some more control over this, but these parameters are currently hard coded in Fusion 360. It all ties back to the selection mechanism which you've posted about at length.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

@jorge_garcia
They should not be removed, they should be re-implemented.
It worked well in EAGLE, it doesn't not work well in Fusion.

I'm not sure how the hardcoded values are now stored, but it looks like it's not a percentage, but a number.
When editing very small components, like a 1x1mm TDFN-4 I was working with the other day, the SELECT tool is almost impossible to use, as it will catch everything close.
You have to move the tool away from the footprint, maybe about 10 times the size of the footprint, to actually get the SELECT tool started without grabbing anything instead,
Additionally, you should FORCE the select tool to SELECT and not start grab stuff and moving things around.

I really cannot understand how this is not already implemented.
You say the values are hardcoded.
BUT, there is fields to enter values????
How can it be more than a 5 minute job to change the code to use the values from the input fields instead of hardcoded values?
So much is hardcoded in Fusion, for instance the grid setting.
It drives me nuts I have to change that 50 times a day for each component I am adding / editing.

Hi @silvio3105 , Hi @jesper8W75R ,

I write that I'll report things so much I just assumed I had written it. It's going into my report and I'll make a ticket on it.

In regards to defaults, you'll see some improvement on this soon.
