Is it possible?  If so, is there a tutorial?

Hi @etfrench ,

sorry, there is no support for importing Kicad files at the moment.

Is there any visibility to have it implemented in the near or mid future? As KiCad is open source free software there should be no blocking points for Autodesk team to implement it. I'd wish to convert my KiCad projects to Fusion 360 and work in this environment.

Converting designs from one EDA software to another is problematic in general, because electrical designs are so dependent on their part libraries that you would have to also convert the libraries as well, which would be a huge task.  It wouldn't be impossible to do but unless there is a HUGE kiCAD user base just waiting to switch to FusionElectronics/Eagle, nobody from Autodesk is going to put any effort into it.  It would pretty much have to be a community built (volunteers) utility.

If you want any of the mechanical keyboard community to start using Fusion 360 for the entire design of their products, then we are going to need KiCad to Eagle conversion for schematics and libraries. It would be great to see that happen IMO.

This is exactly how I ended up on this thread. I use fusion as a hobbyist for setting up 3D prints and other tinkering, and my latest distraction is building a mechanical keyboard. Most of the info and libraries out there are geared toward KiCad, but being fluent in Fusion already I figured it'd be easier to just do it there. Pretty shocked to find there's no way to import KiCad's libraries to be honest.

Add me to the request list for this as well.  After having just plunked down close to $500 for a one-year F360 subscription and needing to import a Kicad board file, imagine my thoughts on the wisdom of my investment when the first thing that popped up was a thread on the official Autodesk support forum that said "nope, can't do that."  This isn't some niche request-- Kicad is mainstream.  Nor is it an impossibility to open and interpolate Kicad board files-- the web-based importer at oshpark.com has absolutely no trouble reading my native board file and making it pretty.

+1 on the request list as well.

As a new Fusion 360 user I'm really surprised this is not possible. KiCad can import Eagle PCB files. May have to abandon Fusion 360 for electronics as I have a LOT of prior work in KiCad format. For this reason alone I may be looking at Altium for E-Cad in the near future.

Hi all,

A BETA version of our new KiCAD importer is now available through the insider program. The insider program gives you access to our next release (May) ahead of time so we can collect valuable feedback. It is compatible with the production version of Fusion.

Instructions on how to sign up for the insider program are here:
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-electronics/become-an-autodesk-fusion-insider/td-p/10552765

Instructions on how to use the KiCAD importer will be available in the insider forum (Electronics section) once you sign up.

We would love to hear your feedback!

Does that mean we can import KiCAD libraries into Fusion Electronics as well?

Yes libraries are also supported. It is still in BETA and does not have a UI yet (in progress) but we would love to see how it is working out for you!

Hi @shaische222,

the KiCAD importer is availbale through the Fusion Insider program. Please check
https://feedback.autodesk.com/key/Fusion360Insider.

This means is not yet officially released, but it got some nice improvements recently and as far as I know an official release should not take too long from now until it will be available for everyone.

Best regards,

Richard Hammerl

I've just joined the insider program and installed fusion insider, but the command box is telling me there is not command "import" after following these instructions from the the preview page:

  1. For translation of KiCad project, create "New Electronics Design", then "New Schematic" and in the Electronics command line type:
    ā€œimport c:\designs\kicad_project_file.kicad_pro"
(Use quotes around the filename if there are spaces in the path)

Hi @rodneycGDADW please use import without quotes and put the quotes only around the filename, it might be that the instructions had a typo there.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I used quotes only on the file path since it has spaces. Typing the "?" Command does not list "import" as an option

Hey there,

Thanks for joining the Insider program. Itā€™s great to see more and more Electronics users joining.
For the KiCAD importer. This is much easier. There is no extra command. Just use the Upload button to upload your KiCAD files into your Fusion environment. With the upload the KiCAD files will be converted automatically.

Best regards,
Richard
