how to smart place componets on PCB in circural form

Hello Everyone,

I have PCB in circular shape. So I need to place 24 LEDs in same distance from the center and between the LEDs.

Is there any smart way in 2D editor or in 3D board view and pushing it back to 2D? I mean using kind of snapping method to the points which I have on sketch.

I already tried to draw a sketch, like bellow if I save it as DXF and import it to 2D editor then it is all manual work. How to insert this sketch to 3D PCB view and snap all the LEDs to the snap points? When I try to move LED body then I can drag only LED but its pads are not going together with the body, they stay out of the board. Thus again manual job: moving the bodies and later its pads.

Where to insert on  3D board this sketch? to the board outline?

How to select entire LED with its pads?

When I try to select (in 3D view)LED by mouse (LED are out of 3D PCB) I also select some parts on PCB what is strange. These other marked (unwanted) parts are not within the mouse selected area, they are quite far away.

Hi @christopher2KLSVU

I hope you are doing well!

You can select components firstly and then activate Arrange command to have a try.

Hope it can solved your problem.

Ok I will try, Thank you. What about 3D view, can I  modify only the board outline skecth, and push it back to 2D editor? Or some other possibilities?.

Somehow it works, the circular arrangement, but... I forgotten to say that the LED have rectangular shape , they are emitting the light 90 degree to the PCB. So I am interested that after placement they "look" they radiate the light outside the circle. They are placed, but now I must modify rotation angle of each LED. Is there moire smart way? Each of the diode will have different rotation value. I have marked on the green right orientation .

---

I fixed orientation manually, for 24 leds it is easy math, every LED the delta is 15degree., not so hard but i would be interested if there are some automatic solution.

Hi @christopher2KLSVU,

I hope you're doing well. The component-array.ulp that comes with Fusion 360 has a checkbox that will allow the LEDs to be rotated to point near the center. Try it out.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
