Easiest way to make footprint?

Hello,

Recently I had to create seemingly trivial footprint of component like below..

It turned out that there was no way to position the components of the polygon. Each of the segment anchors had to be calculated in relation to (0,0) point. Very simple shape costed me 1 hour of work. I would expect to align 2 rectangles with particular size each other, next align them as group to pads and then transform of this group by required distance to the left. Every basic graphic application can do it in 1 minute. 

Is there better approach to draw footprints?
