Can't attach a copy of a existing 3d model

Why can't I chose "Attach a copy of existing 3d model"

I am complete new on this (Fusion 360 Electronics) but I have used 360 mechanics for many years.

I think I'm doing something wrong but what?

Hi @hato54 ,

I hope you're doing well. You currently have an empty library so there's nothing to attach the 3D model to. 3D models can only be attached to footprints so you first need to have a footprint in the library to associate a 3D model to.

I encourage you to watch this series of videos on library creation in Fusion 360 Electronics:

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi and thank You for helping.

I have follow  all the videos (before I send the message)You made but I still don't know how to do.

I have made a library (called "DMR") and  a symbol ("16CHAMUX") and also a footprint ("CHAMUXFP")

but when I try to make a package using my 3d model ("16chamuxSparkfun") .

But still I manage to make a device ("16CHMUX") but without the 3d model.

I cant find how to "Attach a copy of existing 3d model" as You say in the videos.

I must missing something, but what?

Best regards

Håkan

@hato54 Sorry for the confusion. You can add an existing 3D model to a footprint by creating a 3D package. To create 3D package right click on the footprint and select "Create 3D model" option (see below screenshot). It creates a new Fusion doc and activates package editor workspace. You can insert any 3D model and align over the footprint representation. Once it is done make sure to finish the package by clicking "Finish" button. After this process a new 3D package would be added to the library and attached to the footprint.

"Attach copy of existing 3D model" serves different purpose which helps you to quickly creating a package for different footprint reusing existing 3D model from the same library. But to make it work you need to have at least one 3D package in the library.

Hope it helps. In case you still have doubt feel free to reach out. Thanks.
