Text isn't correct height

Hi,

so I made my first PCB in Fusion 360. For silkscreen text I use 27mil(0.7mm) text height and 6mil(0.153mm, 20% text ratio) line width.

Today I received PCBs and silkscreen text(for designators) is unreadable. Even I who made the PCB cannot read some designators.

Since at work I work with same silkscreen text(27mil height and 6mil stroke, but in Altium) I was like "wtf??". PCBs are from JLCPCB, like mine.

So I went to Fusion and 0.7mm(27mil) text height is not 0.7mm - it's 0.635mm.

Okey, I see where's the problem - line width.

But why silkscreen is so unreadable on my PCB? Same height, same stroke, same boardhouse

Hi @silvio3105,

Board houses typically have minimum line widths. In your case this text has a line width of 5 mils approx (27mils x 20% ratio = 5.4 linewidth). Not all board houses can handle that, I generally like to stick to a line width of 8mils if I have enough room.

If you check your Altium board it probably has wider line widths.

I use 27/6mil as at my ex job.
Only difference is font. Why font cant be changed?

Hi @silvio3105,

I hope you're doing well. You can change the font select the text, set the font to custom and then you'll be able to select any of the fonts you have on your system for your board. Bolded or thicker fonts work better obviously.

Did you use the same boardhouse at work compared to at home? If you did then you should expect similar results but if you used a different boardhouse then that might explain the difference in silkscreen.

Yes, JLCPCB.
Only difference is font.
Will be custom font same as vector font on PCB in real(in production)?
As far as I know, vector font is must because of gerbers.

Hi @silvio3105,

I hope you're doing well. In Fusion 360 the requirement for vector font in the gerbers has been removed. In Fusion, all the fonts will render correctly in the gerbers.
