RFE: footprints using sketch tools

Hi there,

Wouldn't that be nice if we could use the sketch tools to define components? We get footprints as nice drawings, with nice dimensions and things, and we have to input them using antique methods while all the tools are already there.

I would say yes. Not only it gives us more time to concentrate on more important steps, but it also reduces risk of error and enhances our precision.

Thanks for thinking about it.

Have a nice day.

hello all

this thread was started 2 years ago

when may I expect to be able to move a 2D F360 sketch into the footprint of a device, as the outline and pin/pad positions?

thank you

Hi @wwfeldman,

I hope you're doing well. We've already incorporated some functionality in this direction. Currently the line command supports the Fusion inferencing engine (mid point snaps, tangents, parallel, perpendicular, etc.) our next target would be to have the MOVE command support it as well because with those two at least, the footprint drawing workflow would be greatly simplified.

We are still some way away from being able to just straight up bring in the a Fusion sketch into the footprint editor though we all agree this would be a wonderful workflow in the lib editor.

hi jorge

i hope you are well.

its a year and a half since the last message.

what's the prospect of moving a fusion mechanical sketch to a fusion electronics footprint?

and since i'm here, what about getting the algorithm the package generator uses
to build 3D models and footprints, as in post #8?

thank you

Hi @wwfeldman,

I hope you're doing well. So first off the package generator generates both 3D models and footprints already so that has been addressed.

I've proposed the footprint editor to consume a sketch recently. I'm hopeful that it would be a faster way in than trying to implement constraints and new drawing tools in the footprint editor. I'll pass this thread along to our developers to see if this could maybe be prioritized soon.

Thank you for the follow up, always feel free to reach out.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
