Replace multiple schematic components workflow

I am trying to replace multiple components in the schematic to a different part number which has the same footprint as the current component.

I can select all of the components (95) by using the design manager panel and filtering on the MFG part number, but when I run the replace command it doesn't allow me to select the group of components to apply the change. There is no group available to select.

Selecting only one component in the design manager panel then going to the inspector panel there are quick actions available including replace a component.

If I select more than one component in the design manager panel, the only quick action is delete.

What is the recommended way to do this without having to go one by one to each component?

Hi Chuck,

The recommended approach is to use the Quick action replace the components. I made the selection in the same way you did and I have the quick action for replace.

Let me know if you had to filter down the Inspector selection, if you did then the replace quick action goes away. If you make sure to intentionally only select components, then it should work.

@jorge_garcia

Thanks for the assistance.

Apparently, this workflow only works in the 2D PCB and not the schematic. I didn't show in my original post that I was working in the schematic.

I'm used to making component changes in the schematic and then pushing those changes to the PCB, not vice versa.

Why wouldn't this workflow functionality be available in both the schematic and 2D PCB? It would give the user the flexibility to choose when to use it.

If it would have been available in the schematic, I would have finished my task without having to ask you about it.

Hi @chuck_toddN7PTC ,

That's strange, I see no reason why it shouldn't work in the schematic editor. I'll create a bug report for this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
