Proper way to close electronic design project

In Eagle I would always save the schematic and board files then in Eagle control panel choose Close Project. I did this to prevent the files from getting out of sync. Is there a matching way to properly close down a electronic design project in Fusion 360?

Hi @infinite.machinery,

The proper procedure is to save the electronics design document, when you do that you'll see that the linked documents save as well. Once that is done you can go ahead and close Fusion360. That's the gist of it. If you have made a 3D PCB make sure to sync it with the 2D PCB before saving.

Hi Jorge,

Must I exit from fusion360 in order to work right away on another project? Is it improper to click on another electronics design to open it completely separate from a design I'm finished working on?

When you save 2D pcb or schematic, it saves all files(PCB project, schematic and 2D PCB).
Then you can close PCB project and all other project's file and open another PCB project file(schematic and PCB file will be opened automatically after PCB project file is opened).

So that is my question. I have Fusion360 on a Mac. Maybe I'm missing it, butI don't see a place or button or file/close option where it offers to close a project, or anything. I have tried simply opening another project, and if I go back to 'Home' and find a project, it opens and the work I had open on the screen disappears. But Jorge used the word 'proper' I think. So, what are you clicking to close a project?

Hi,

Sorry but I want to emphasize you do not need to close the application to close a project.  Simply closing the tab for the project document will close the combination of the Sch, PCB, 3D Board and the Electronic Design in one swoop and prompt you to save any unsaved changes accounting for the state of ALL open assets that belong to the Electronic Design.  Here is a quick screen image of the place on the tab to click and the dialog that follows.  You do NOT need to close Fusion to close an electronic design file.  

What EAGLE lacked was the ability (at least on Mac) to have multiple projects open at the same time.  Fusion accounts for this by keeping track thru the electronic design file.  This enables you to also use the same source schematic to target different PCB form factors.  This is why the electronic design file was introduced - ie to find an elegant way to map the relationship between a schematic and PCB file and support that schematic being retargeted without having to quite literally copy and paste files on the computer.

No. Please see my other post in this thread. That isn't required and is very much the reason we introduced the Electronic Design file in the first place. To manage that relationship and enable you to have multiple designs open at once with some bonus capability I mention near the end of my other post.
