Newbie question - How to link package to Component?

I have been spending hours watching old outdated videos and trying to figure this out on my own with no luck.  I have a package created (the 3D model) and I also have what I think is a component because it has the symbol and the footprint.  I'm now trying to figure out how to link the package to the component.  Right now the component just says "placeholder" for the component.  When I try and click the three dots in the packages section and "add package" it lets me open "My Library" where I think the package lives, but I don't see it there - even though you can clearly see it in the left column.

I'm totally lost.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  

If you look in the left column, there is NJ5FD-V component and NJ5FD-V Package.  I am trying to link the two.  Thanks for any help!
