How to create a library from schematic

I have a schematic with components/packages/devices that come from separate libraries, and I would like to create a separate library with only these components, for use with student projects. I see there's a video tip that explains this for Eagle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Un_Z0kis6c). In this video a ULP is used to do this. We are told to use "exp-lbrs-replace2.ulp" . I tried this in Eagle but I get a lot of errors. My plan was to create the library and then use it in Fusion 360 Electronics. What's the best way to do this? Can it be done in Fusion 360 Electronics?

Hi @LloydTravisSmith ,

That's not the right place. In the upper portion of the screen you'll see a bar that says click to type. That bar is to the right of the grid spacing and cursor position fields. Click in that field and type EXPLIB there. See screenshot

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

OK, confusing that there are two places to enter text command, but I tried
it and it worked. Thanks

Hi @LloydTravisSmith  @yaqoubdesign

I hope you are doing well!

Todya we release Fusion 360 V2.0.12157 and now you can see the Export Libraries command in the menu bar.

Great news. Thanks for the feedback! I was able to make a library by exporting to Eagle, but it will be important to be able to skip the Eagle step going forward.

I feel like I have been able to get my mind around most aspects of Fusion360 Electronics, but I am still dogged by libraries. I have been creating libraries according to the instructions Jorge Garcia gives at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Os1RZU1ZgM, but I think the workflow and user experience need to be streamlined significantly for someone with my skill level to be able to feel confident with it.

@jorge_garcia

I know this is an old post.
But still, without it, I wouldn't have know about the EXPLIB functionality, which I needed.
Because it is not documented ANYWHERE!

Certainly isn't in the CLI reference:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=ECD-CLI#e

And not available from any menu or anything.

The only other place it is mentioned, apart from this post, is in a "December 2020" Product Update.
Seriously?
How many other useful command exist, which you have not documented?

Will there EVER be a Fusion Electronics manual, that actually is up to date and contain proper documentation?

Hi @jesper8W75R ,

I hope you're doing well. Like I mentioned in another post, the documentation is being worked on and it will start to really improve from release to release moving forward. I don't think there will be a paper manual as such but Fusion 360's online documentation will eventually fully satisfy that need.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

@jorge_garcia , I'm happy to hear you're working on it.

But, sadly this is what I have become used to hear from Autodesk.
And considering that the original post is from July 2020, I would say it's about time you get this command documented.

While we wait for you to "work on it", would it be possible to just get a list of "unknown" commands like explib?

I don't think anyone expects paper manuals anymore.

Hi, this solution seems to work for exporting the library. However, it seems like all of the parts in the document still are referencing the old library which I don't have, so I would have to manually replace each part.

Any way that I can automatically fix this or at least do it in bulk?

Hello @dev2EP8UX,

I hope you're doing well. This was actually already addressed using the Swap libraries command. I'm actually due to make a video on that. I'll try to get to it after AU.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Panpan,

I just tried using the export library icon on the menu bar and nothing happens.  If I type "explib" in the command line interface,  then it works.  Is this just me or is it a bug?

Hi @yaqoubdesign

The Export Libraries icon works well for me.

Would you mind using other schematic files to check? Thanks!
