Footprint dimensions do not match in PCB view vs. Library Editor

Hello.

This is my first Project in Fusion Electronics. Probably I am doing something wrong. But I find this tool (just like Eagle before it) very unintuitive.

I modified the footprint of a standard Pinheader connector (PINHD-1x7) and use it in my Design (using the "replace" function because I realised too late that I need special dimensions for pogo pins).

I can see the visual change when the replace action happens, and the hole dimensions are correct, but the pads get enlarged in a weird way (see screenshots).

Sorry for the poorly drawn dimensions - I had different units (mm vs. mil) in the dimension window; yet another thing I dislike...

Why does this happen and what is the correct workflow of copy-editing existing footprints/symbols/components?

Thanks for the help,
Stefan

Update: See latest screenshot, where I updated again, and see the dimension incoming from the footprint editor... this smells like a bug to me....

If there's a mismatch between the lib and pcb most likely you have to update your design with the new lib.

See tab library -> update design from library

Unfortunately, doesn't make a difference. Which makes sense, as I updated (freshly installed) all libraries right before starting this project.

Hi @stef_egger , is it because you are using different variants? can you please share a simple PCB document with the connector in it together with the library file?

Hi @yqliu , thanks for the reply. The variants match, I checked multiple times. When I right-click the Footprint in PCB view and click "open footprint", my suspicion of this being a bug is confirmed even more, because in Footprint editor, everything is as I want it to be. Only PCB view has the issue.

In the mean time, I worked around using a different connector (from library SparkFun-Connectors). I used the same workflow and had no issues that the pads were enlarging or similar. Without actually checking, I believe the problem was caused by the pad diameter being "auto" by default (I changed it from auto to a fixed value, but it seems that this change was ignored somehow...)

Hello @stef_egger,

I hope you're doing well. The annular ring settings will overwrite any fixed values that end up violating the annular ring settings. This behavior has been discussed at length before and is a common source of confusion for new users.

We are working on improving this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Happy Holidays;

Has this issue been addressed? I am running into the same problem: In the footprint I have a 2mm diameter hole and a 2.54mm diameter pad. When I bring this into the PCB, the pad diameters are blown up and create interference. is there a way to change annular ring settings?

Hello @Orientes ,

You can adjust the annular ring settings by going into the Design Preferences > Annular Ring settings tab.  The goal is to adjust the settings only as much as necessary to get your library diameter to win.

See this page for more info:
