Different widths within net

Is it possible to use different widths of the same net within a net class without getting an error? I have a current sense resistor on a net of width 0.40 mm. I have jumpers in parallell with this resistor and I'd like the width of the nets to the jumper to be of width 0.15 mm widthout getting DRC errors. Is this possible?

 

I also have an smd component with a pin of smaller width than the net  it's connected to (same net as above). This also gives an error. Is it possible to disable these as the chip doesn't draw much current?

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

 

I hope you're doing well. The only way to get around this is to set the netclass to the smallest width you will be routing and then use a larger width for the majority of the trace. Another option is to change the netclass values during the routing process, so first route thick traces with the thicker settings then route the the thin ones. The other possibility that occurs to me is to go full manual(set violators to Ignore violators) and just approve the DRC errors you are going to get on the thin segments.

 

There are a few ways to do it but in most cases you'll end up with some DRC errors.

ok, but this doesn't address the most serious issue : I get errors on every pin that's also thinner than the net class. This is not something I can simply work around using the tricks mentioned. How is this solved?

Hi @pstormarkG9SGY,

 

I hope you're doing well. The only option is to continually change the netclass width rules starting from thickest to thinnest. So start with the thickest first and then work your way down. At the end the netclass will have the smalles value and you won't have any DRC violations. That's what I would do.
