125 Students...

I'm wondering if Autodesk has a process for reviewing their teacher/student assignment limits. As an engineering teacher at a large high school I have nearly 150 unique students each semester. I can't use the assign students option and must have the kids go through the process of creating an account and sending proof, etc.. I currently have kids that have submitted their student ID still with ticking days left on their accounts as the confirmation process seems to be problematic. As a school that has a required design class for 9th grade students (over 400 kids) this is an every year, every semester problem and literally sucks a couple days out of the curriculum as kids try and navigate the account process. Thanks.

Hi @timmlowe,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. Unfortunately, for the 125-seat option, we don't currently offer a way to increase that upper limit. However, you have a couple of options to work around this:

  1. Assign the first 125 and ask the remaining 25 to create individual accounts.
  2. Ask a colleague (another teacher) to create an Autodesk account and help with the assignment of the remaining seats.

Also, please be sure to unassign students after each term to free up the seats.

We are always working to improve the verification process on the backend, so I hope that it will go more smoothly for students who need to go through the process directly.

Gabe

P.S. If students are running into issues with verification when creating their own accounts, please be sure they are using their school email addresses, as this will help with the verification process.

Hi @timmlowe

To add onto Gabe's suggestions. Your students can change the email address they used for their Autodesk Account at https://profile.autodesk.com/security

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I can see those workarounds, but I'm in a project-based school where the kids use Fusion throughout their high school years as we run a Fab Lab setting where kids can come and create items needed for other classes. I'll just continue with the individual accounts for now. It'd be nice if the district could work on a network account creation or something, but in a district this size that'd be like getting congress to do something useful.

Hi @timmlowe

If your students use their school email, this should reduce the number of students who need to confirm their eligibility. If the students need to confirm their eligibility, the documentation they submit must contain the following three items:

  1. Name
    1. The name on your Autodesk Account, must match the name on the eligibility document(s).
      1. If needed you can change your Autodesk Account name at https://profile.autodesk.com/personalinfo
      2. Change email address: https://profile.autodesk.com/security
  2. School name: Must match the school that was selected in the list.
  3. Current Date: Clearly shows enrollment in the current term.
    1. Student’s class schedule (usually contains the three pieces of information)
    2. If needed, you can fill in this Student template and submit this form
    3. School IDs don't usually contain a current date.
    4. Multiple documents can be uploaded in one operation.

Does this help?

Yup - I instruct them to use the name that matches on their school ID and submit a picture of that ID as proof. I basically just walk through with each student when it gets close and it hasn't been approved. There have been times where they type in the wrong name, or a preferred name, or put a thumb over something on the ID, etc...

Hi @timmlowe

Do your school's student IDs contain a current date (within a few months)? If not, this will not work on it's own as proof of their eligibility.

Thanks for all your help!!

It has the current school year on the ID, picture, name, student number. It has worked so far and I've done a few hundred students between last year and this year. On the Fusion side for example, yesterday I had a student where the desktop app had the pop-up in the upper right "you are approved for education..click here" then a "restart Fusion for this to take effect"... After dismissing that the first one pops up again and restarting Fusion did not kick it over from the 30 day education trial. I had them login to the education page on Autodesk, they got the approval pop up there, then I had them load Fusion - same issue at first and then it finally showed education instead of trial.

Reducing the friction on this process would be nice - having 33 14 year-olds and having to bounce between laptops trying to diagnose individual issues on why Fusion doesn't just flip them over to education is annoying and adds to the classroom management issues when the goal is to teach design. It would be nice if the account just flipped over on approval and didn't need a whole pop up window and restart of the app and login and out shenanigans.

Love Fusion and what it allows me to do in the engineering courses (aerospace just did static stress analysis of an engine mount they designed) - it just sucks to spend time fighting software.  🙂

 @timmlowe

Thanks for the additional feedback. The team is always working at improving the process and your feedback is appreciated.

For the student who can't get their Education license of Fusion, he/she may have acquired their own license and will need to renew it. Please ask them to do the following.

  1. Log into the Autodesk Education site.
  2. To renew your Fusion 360 license; on the Fusion 360 product card click "Get product".

  1. Then click "ACCESS"

  1. Launch Fusion 360.
  2. If the Education license does not appear on the top of the screen, sign out and back into Fusion 360.

Keep us posted.
