yet another question - trimming the ends of internal coils to a cylindrical body

Howdy

I have a cylinder (with a tapered ID and a constant OD). I have used the coil tool to create some internal threads in the cylinder but they stick out the ends of the cylinder if I make the coil the same length as the cylinder itself. How do I trim off the excess threads to make them fluch with the end of the cylinder?

thanks

The fastest way is to split the body and delete the part you don't want.  Select the coil as the body to split and the top face of the cylinder as the splitting tool.

When you are done, delete the body from the browser.

I tried that. Its splits the body ok but when I go to delete the unwanted portion I get an error that the geometry can't be deleted because it causes unhealable geometry (or something like that). I got it done by extruding sketched retangles across the end faces as a cut.

Thanks!

You can't delete the body in the graphics window.  You need to do it from the browser.   Verify if you are getting this error when you delete the body from the broswer.

To delete a body from the graphics. Mouse over a face of the body you want to delete.  Press the left mouse button and hold.   The select other tool appears. On the parents tab choose, Body. That will select the body.  Then you can delete it!

Thanks for showing us this Kevin.  I am always amazed about the little things in Fusion 360 and keep learning something new every day.
