Workflow using rectagles as guides

Here is what I like to use as my work flow.

1) Create new sketch.  name this sketch-constr1

Draw rectangles of boundaries for actual 2D objects I want to create.

These are not the shape of actual object, just the outer limits of actual object footprints.

I like this to be my construction rectangles, but not able to find such option.

Ideally, I can click anyone of these rectangles and convert this into "construction rectangles".

How?

2) Create new sketch (folder). Name it sketch-object1.

This sketch would be inside one or more of the "construction rectangles" in 1) above.

Again, F360 is not aware of "construction rectangles" being used as such.

Now I can draw on one of the above "construction rectangles".

3) Repeat 2 (for another actual sketch object, sketch-objectX ,where X=object number.

4) When all is done, I would hide all the construction rectangles.

Is there a better way to mimic these construction rectangles on F360?

Right click to toggle to construction.

or

hit

Construction.png

If you would like to reference geometry from one sketch (or body)  into another sketch

hit

and select the geometry to Project.

@TheCADWhisperer:

Thank you.

With or without edit sketch mode, I selected each rectangle, and right click.

There is no convert to "Construction..... " or something similar option.

How did you make Normal/Construction menu item to display?

You cannot change sketch elements to construction lines if you are no actively editing that sketch.

And it has to be THAT sketch you are editing, not a second sketch on  top of the first one with projected points (indicated by the purple color!.

OK.

So here is what I did.

1) I selected the rectangle or the corresponding sketch folder.

2) Right click, and > edit sketch  (So this makes the sketch active, correct?)

3) When the Sketch Palette pops up, there is no Normal / Construction option.

I also try this while in above active sketch for that sketch folder:

-Draw new rectangle

But the sketch palette did not show Normal / Construction option.

Why?

Is my Fusion 360 outdated or does it update itself?

Addendum:

SOLVED:

I think I know what I did wrong.

While in active edit sketch mode, I have to select

the line of the rectangle.

Then right click to select Normal / Construction.

Also Normal / Construction  will automagically show up on the Sketch Palette

while the line (in edit mode) is selected.

Thank you @TrippyLighting & @TheCADWhisperer

Your Fusion 360 installation is not outdated as that is hardly possible. Updates are forced.

This functionality has not changed in the lat 6 moths or more.

Did you watch my screencast ?

Try to exactly replicate it. That should not be difficult as I am starting from scratch.

Are you referring to creating a projection plane,

and then project the line to the new plane

or something else ?
